About Us

Montana Department of Labor and Industry

The Department of Labor & Industry (DLI) has primary responsibility for overseeing the licensure and registration of over 200,000 citizens across the state of Montana. Licensure is primarily required to protect the citizens of Montana in professions where unrestricted practice might present unreasonable levels of harm. The Montana Assistance Program (MAP) is a statutorily authorized program for licensees of several healthcare related licensing boards and programs. While a licensing-related program, the MAP program is housed within the Centralized Services Division (CSD) of DLI and not affiliated with the licensing bureau in the Employment Standards Division (ESD). This separation is vital to ensure that program participants are kept confidential and that their monitoring is successfully completed.

The department is committed to licensees who enter the program either voluntarily or as a condition of their licensing board. The MAP, and its staff, are here to assist licensees in their successful completion of the program. Staff partner with licensed clinicians who are responsible for any diagnosis and recommended treatment to assist licensees in progressing through their recovery. The program is not a replacement for medical expertise and does not provide treatment; although staff implement best practices, as recommended by national organizations, related to substance use, mental, or physical issues.

The department and program are committed to positively impacting the health and wellness of healthcare licensees to enhance patient care and safety.
